Welcome To TA100 – A Year To Celebrate The Territorial Army
The Army Recruiting Group has created and launched a new advertising campaign to help give the British public a better understanding of what the service does around the world, as well as encourage new sign ups of recruits. TA100 now has a nice new designed website to help with information about TA and its history and role.
TA100 Celebrations got off to a great start when the 100th Anniversary of the Territorial Army was launched in the four nations capitals in April. Large crowds gathered at 1130 to watch as TA Royal Artillery unites fired in Edinburgh, Belfast, London, and Cardiff. A reception was held afterwards at the National Army Museum in London. It was hosted by the Chief of the General Staff. His name is General Sir Richard Dannatt. The reception also helped to launch the commissioned book called Territorial’s, a Century of Service; the author was there to sign copies.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall were on hand to mark the 100th anniversary of the Territorial Army. The Prince, who is a General in the Army, told the guest that the TA Units and the Reserve forces are “Absolutely vital”. During the event 104 year old Edwin Cooper, who is the oldest surviving Territorial who served in the Royal Army Medical Corps was taken onto the stage and received a glorious welcome from the attendants. Mr. Cooper signed up at age 20 in 1924 and followed in his father’s footsteps who were a non commissioned officer in the Territorial Army. The Prince also met Mr. Cooper.
